As the NFL approaches the day that has become known around the league as "Black Monday" (the Monday after the end of the regular season which is when many non-playoff teams will inform their coaches that they will be fired) the Raiders have to ponder the future of their coaching staff.
Many Raider fans are hoping and praying that offensive coordinator Greg Knapp is let go by head coach Dennis Allen,GM Reggie McKenzie and owner Mark Davis.
It is more than likely that Allen and McKenzie will return for at least one more season. The hottest their seats got was when Davis met with the press during Oakland's six game losing streak and said he wanted progress, not regression.
On the other hand, Davis has said time and time again that he is patient. That could be Greg Knapp's saving grace.
Despite the demise of one of the NFL's most explosive offenses last year, Allen has defended Knapp and has voiced his attachment to the zone blocking scheme of Knapp.
Regardless of Darren McFadden's production decline or Darrius Heyward-Bey's regression as an NFL receiver, Allen has said he trusts the scheme that Knapp is running.
In my opinion, we have not seen the last of Knapp in Oakland. That's not what I want for the Raiders, but I don't see him being fired just yet.
It's not like the Raiders have shown no signs of life. We saw Marcel Reece emerge as the lead running back with McFadden out to injury in that same zone blocking scheme. We also saw Carson Palmer throw for over 4,000 yards and saw the rise of Brandon Myers as a solid tight end.
