Tyler Wilson: How Will Oakland’s Newest QB Fare in the Pros?

The Oakland Raiders made Tyler Wilson the third quarterback drafted in the fourth round of the 2013 NFL draft. Wilson was once considered an early-round quarterback prospect, but he saw his draft stock slide due to a poor final season for the Arkansas Razorbacks.

However, Wilson has the overall skill set to be a very good starting quarterback in the NFL. Let's take a look at how Oakland's newest quarterback will fare in the NFL.

Pro Outlook

There isn't much lacking in Wilson's overall game. He's got great arm strength and the ability to make all the throws necessary in the NFL.

At 6'2" and 215 pounds, Wilson also has the size to take the constant pounding of the NFL. He's got good touch on his throws and zips balls into tight windows.

His footwork will need a little work as he doesn't always step into his throws. Wilson also needs to improve his touch on the deep ball, as he'll sometimes let the ball hang in the air too long.

Fantasy Outlook

Wilson is a fantastic pick for dynasty leagues, but he doesn't offer much value right now in standard leagues. His stock could improve if he challenges Matt Flynn and Terrelle Pryor for the starting job, but right now he doesn't appear to be a huge fantasy football threat for the 2013 season.

Roster Outlook

With the Raiders acquiring Flynn in the offseason, Wilson will likely start the season as the backup quarterback, and he could even fall to the No. 3 quarterback on the roster if Pryor has a strong showing in the preseason.

Pick Analysis

The Raiders have needed to draft a quarterback of the future for the last few seasons, but they simply haven't had the picks to do it. However, with a good amount of picks in this year's draft, they finally drafted a quarterback that has the tools to become a franchise quarterback.
