Should the 49ers Make an Offer To Raiders for Nnamdi Asomugha?

This has an on-going rumor lately: whether the Oakland Raiders should trade cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha.

Generally, I would prefer that the Raiders retain Asomugha.  But like anything, if the right offer came along, I would listen.

One intriguing possibility has been for the Raiders to trade Asomugha to the San Francisco 49ers in exchange for the Niners two picks in the 1st round of the 2010 NFL Draft.

I say that, because when I wrote my Mock Draft for this year, I came to the 49ers and thought, "The draft cannot give them the immediate help they need to contend."

The 49ers want to win the NFC West in 2010, no question.

Offensively, the 49ers cannot get immediate help from the Draft, with the possible exception of CJ Spiller.

Nevertheless, Frank Gore and Glen Coffee are in place at halfback, so unless the Niners decide to change that, then I don't expect a selection of Spiller.

I also wouldn't shake up the offensive line with a rookie.  I would keep intact what the Niners already have, rather than insert someone new into the mix.

Defensively, the Niners have developed an identity as a gritty unit that can punish the offense under head-coach Mike Singletary.

Yet, something still seems to be missing from this team.

The only position that seems "off" is corner-back, even though Dre Bly and Walt Harris have been admirable compliments and replacements to Nate Clements.

A shut-down cornerback like Asomugha however would give the Niners a h...
