The Raiders really had to make this move, to justify the expense of bringing Seymour in (a first round pick in the 2011 draft). It seems obvious the organization hopes to be able to sign him to a long-term deal, as one of the feature players on an otherwise mostly unimpressive Oakland defense (with the exception of Pro Bowl CB Nnamdi Asomugha, who the Raiders are reported to be actively shopping with little success).
In fact, the Raiders are reported to be shopping almost anyone that might interest another team on their roster, and with that news one might conclude that Seymour, if unable to work something out long-term, will also be on his way out of town so they can get some return on their asset as opposed to simply letting him leave at the end of the 2010 season.
