Raiders’ Cooper off to Historic Start with 290 Yards Through 3 Games

Oakland Raiders wide receiver Amari Cooper is off to a historically fast start, with his 290 receiving yards good for third-most by a rookie in NFL history through the first three games of a season, according to Pro-Football-Reference.com (via Josh Dubow of the Associated Press).

Despite catching just five passes for 47 yards in his Week 1 debut against the Cincinnati Bengals, the No. 4 overall draft pick trails only Anquan Boldin (378) and Louis Lipps (337) for most receiving yards by a rookie through Week 3.

Cooper broke out in a 37-33 Week 2 home win over the Baltimore Ravens, catching seven passes for 109 yards and a score on 11 targets, with his day highlighted by a 68-yard touchdown.

He then caught eight balls for 134 yards on 11 targets in Sunday's 27-20 win over the Cleveland Browns, helping the Raiders improve to 2-1 for the first time since 2011.

Although he's only reached the end zone once in three games, Cooper has still been remarkably efficient for a rookie, with his 290 receiving yards on 31 targets working out to 9.4 yards per target.

Of course, the excellent start hasn't been without mistakes, as Cooper did lose a fumble during Sunday's game, and he dropped one pass in each of his first three contests, per Pro Football Focus.

Still, the Raiders are undoubtedly pleased with their investment, as the rest of the first-round rookie wide receivers have been unproductive and/or sidelined by injuries.
