Oakland Raiders: What About Mike Mitchell?

The Raiders have a very underrated safety corps.

Tyvon Branch is an amazing tackler and due for a Pro Bowl year.

Michael Huff was beginning to be labeled as a bust until he broke out in coverage last year.

Rewind to the 2009 NFL Draft. The Raiders had an underperforming player in Huff and a late round pick who was injured in Branch.

So, in the 2nd round Oakland went ahead and drafted Michael Mitchell out of Ohio University (not to be confused with the Ohio State Buckeyes).

This made everone's eyes pop, as nobody really new who this kid was.

Eventually after people saw some film they were convinced that this kid could play.

He was a hard hitter and actually knocked a few people out in his college career.

And let's not forget about the fact that the Bears were planning on selecting Mitchell two picks later.

Mitchell lost the training camp competition to Michael Huff and played mostly on special teams during the season.

Now fast forward to May of 2010.

The Raiders just had an amazing draft and cut the underperforming bust, JaMarcus Russell. They've filled most needs and seem poised to contend for the division title.

Under all this, Mitchell has fallen under the radar.

At 6'1 and 220 he could move to cornerback. Or you could move Huff to cornerback and have Mitchell play safety.

Either way, he was a second round selection and the Raiders should utilize his amazing talent.

He's a hard worker and a hard hitter all the same.

So tell me what you think, Raider Nation! Is this kid just a bust? Or do you agree that he needs to get more playing time? If so, where would you have him play? Tell me below and please "Like" the article!
