Yes, I said it, "Play mean." As we think about guys like George Atkinson, Mean Joe Greene, Ernie Holmes and other football legends, we realize that they played "mean" and won games. Of course, what they did had to comply with NFL rules.
Now if a college team in North Texas can continue to promote the motto "mean green" then certainly they must want to produce more tough professional football players like "Mean Joe Greene" as an example.
We have our list of mean players of the Oakland Raiders of the past. Even some of our wide receivers were tagged as men to be feared on the playing field. You can list those names in the comment section.
I just want to inspire a spirit of determination and strength to get the job done.
What is the job? To win NFL games.
And, if you think it's luck that places these inspirational things around me, you might want to do some deeper thinking. Call it time and chance. Call it luck. I call it something else.
I am going to call it "a call to excellence and victory," at this time. I hear the call.
Do you hear it? Can you see it? Can you feel it?
Some of us can and so we continue cheering and writing about our expectation of one of the most talented teams in the NFL, the Oakland Raiders.
Now, the proof in the pudding is in the eating, so get out there and win those games, Oakland Raiders! In other words, the old saying means that to fully test something you need to experience it yourself.
And what do the Oakland Raiders want to experience? VICTORY!
