Oakland Raiders: Team Works Out Jake Grove and It’s About Time

All season one of the Raiders main concerns has been the offensive line, specifically left-tackle, center and right guard.

It would seem that now, finally, the Raiders are looking to improve or, at least, add depth at center. As the Raiders worked out their former center, Jake Grove, on Tuesday.

While with the Raiders, Grove has always been productive along the o-line when healthy. The problem, however, was that he was often injured or banged up, starting in only 46 games in his five years in Oakland.

When Groves contract with the Raiders expired at the end of the 2008 season, he opted to test out the free agency waters and he struck it big landing a $29.5 million contract with $14 million in guarantees.

After just one year with the Dolphins, he was cut after losing his starting position to Joe Berger. Economically speaking, it made no sense to pay Grove what he was due for a backup role.

Since then, Grove has been looking for a team, so far working out with the Lions, Ravens and, most recently, the Raiders.

But, the Raiders need to ask themselves a few questions before they sign him.

Would adding Grove improve the Raiders current o-line situation?

Would he become an immediate starter or just add depth?

Has he recovered from his AC-joint injury?

Who would the Raiders have to release to make room?

My personal opinion is that this may be a great and it is about time the Raiders took a look at this guy.

Even if he can't earn the starting position, he would more than likely add some very valuable depth and experience to the o-line.
