The Raiders failed to do much offensively early after Jason Campbell had to replace Bruce Gradkowski late in the first quarter due to a shoulder injury.
Oakland's first points came from a blocked punt that rolled out of the end zone for a safety. After that the Raiders blocked another punt that resulted in a touchdown.
The Chargers found most of their yardage on short passes to wide open receivers. The Raiders stopped the Chargers' run game early, and the Chargers switched to throwing the ball. The Raiders safeties were also in question as Nnamdi Asomugha was charged with two pass interference penalties and helped allow a touchdown to Malcolm Floyd, who was covered by basically nobody.
With the Raiders up 28-27 late in the fourth quarter, all the Chargers had to do was kick a field goal. Fortunately for the Raiders, Philip Rivers fumbled after Michael Huff blitzed and caused a loose ball. The ball was recovered by Tyvon Branch and returned 64 yards for a touchdown. After a challenge by San Diego, the play was upheld and the Raiders finished with a win.
Michael Bush filled in for the injured McFadden, and Oakland mostly ran him up the middle which failed to make many yards. However, he got over 100 yards in rushing and receiving.
There were many problems for the Chargers but for the Raiders, there were more. Campbell is a bad quarterback. He played better than expected but he holds the ball way too long. He seems scared in the pocket and ends up throwing the short ball for minimal yards. He did complete a long pass that was called back even though it was clearly inbounds and a long pass into the end zone to Zach Miller that was also reviewed but held up as a touchdown.
