Going into 2013, the Oakland Raiders have the most uncertainty at their quarterback position since Jason Campbell was lost for the season during the 2011 season.
The Raiders and Seattle Seahawks have a deal in place to make Matt Flynn the latest addition to the silver and black.
One thing still stands in the way.
As reported by NFL.com's Gregg Rosenthal, Flynn is holding up the deal because he won't accept a restructured contract with the Oakland Raiders. Sounds like the man that the Raiders are looking to replace.
Carson Palmer declined a pay cut of $3 million a few days ago, and since then, the Flynn trade talks have heated up. I'll admit that I have been a Palmer supporter throughout the offseason. But with him declining a marginal pay cut (he would still earn $10 million in 2013), I am having second thoughts about retaining him.
Now there is also speculation that Kevin Kolb (via rotoworld.com) is on Oakland's radar. This comes after ESPN reported that the Raiders were also considering Vince Young.
Not long ago, it seemed like Geno Smith was a popular choice to be Oakland's first-round pick in the upcoming NFL draft. If not Smith, then the Raiders might consider Matt Barkley after the first round.
The mess all got started when Raiders' coach Dennis Allen said at the Senior Bowl in January that Terrelle Pryor would compete with Palmer for the starting job.
If only Jason Campbell never got injured in that game against the Cleveland Browns back in 2011. I guess the same could be said for Rich Gannon getting hurt that 2004 game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Perhaps all the talk of Pryor, Flynn, Kolb,Young, Barkley and Smith is just a bluff by the Raiders to get Palmer to reduce his salary and help the cap-strapped Raiders.
