Oakland Raiders: No Major Distractions Heading Into Training Camp

The Oakland Raiders are to known be a circus around this time of the year.

Whether it's rumors about a 300—pound quarterback, a receiver getting mugged in Vegas, a coach breaking another coaches jaw or Al Davis making it rain, throwing money around like Vince Young at a strip club.

Most Raiders players will tell you they've learned to block it out and ignore all that negative attention. They're used to being a part of one of the biggest circuses in the NFL, the Oakland Raiders.

The culture is changing for the Raiders and perhaps the biggest example of this is what you have been hearing in the media.

Nothing.

For the first time in a long time there isn't much to talk about in Oakland. Even the local beat writers are stumped and campaigning for Terrell Owens to come Oakland just so they can have something to talk about.

Rolando McClain and Lamarr Houston haven't signed a contract yet, but neither have most first and second round picks. Richard Seymour has signed his franchise tender and will be in camp with Oakland.

You know it's been a quiet off—season for the Raiders when most experts praise the Raiders draft weekend and Mel Kiper admits he didn't evaluate a Raiders draft pick as high as he should have. (Houston)

As hard as the media tries to find the negatives with the Raiders, they haven't been very successful this off—season.

No news is good news for the Al Davis and the Raiders. The players, coaches, owner and fans should enjoy this peace and quiet as it is rare.

While the Raiders have yet to win a game, they are looking more like a team that is serious about winning than they have been in recent years.

Expect more things to happen this year that are out of the ordinary for the Raiders; like scoring points and winning games.
