Today it was announced that Rod Woodson has rejoined the Raiders family and has signed on to coach the defensive backs. This is a great move by Al Davis because Rod Woodson is one of the smartest guys to ever play in the NFL. All of the young defensive backs will benefit immensely from this hiring.
During his playing days, he was one of the best DBs in the game. He was a shut down corner and after he lost a step, he moved to safety where he continued to play some All Pro caliber football. He was always around the ball. I still can see him intercepting a pass and returning it about 95 yards for a touchdown against the Broncos on Monday Night Football. That play turned our season around, snapping a four game losing streak, and igniting one of the strongest finishes the Raiders have ever had.
This might even be a bargaining chip when it comes to re-signing Nnamdi Asomugha. You know he'd love to get a few pointers from one of the best players in the history of the NFL. Guys like Michael Huff, Tyvonn Branch, Mike Mitchell, Jeremy Ware, Walter McFadden and Stevie Brown will learn a thing or two from the great Rod Woodson.
