Oakland Raiders JaMarcus Russell: In Oakland and in Shape?

JaMarcus Russell should be in Oakland on Tuesday, said Hall of Famer Willie Brown during an interview on Comcast SportsNet Bay Area Monday.

Not only will he be showing up, but he will be showing up in shape.

“You’ll be surprised when you see him,” Brown said. “It’s quite a bit of weight that he’s lost...I don’t want to pin it down and say how much he lost but it will be a significant difference when you see him compared to last year."

“The most important thing is he’s getting in shape. Not only losing weight, but getting in shape. He’s watching his diet, he has special meals brought in that he’s eating, and we have one of the Raiders, a former player there with him to monitor him and make sure things are going fine. The weight thing, he’ll get it down. He’ll get it down.”

One of the flaws most non-Russell supporters like to point out to, is his weight and his lack of time he puts in during the offseason.

If these reports are true, this should bring back some supporters who believe Russell is not doing his part.

Though it is still early in the QB competition, Russell will have the upperhand if he comes into camp in shape.

His physical ability alone is enough to beat Bruce Gradkowski for the starting job. If Russell has truly worked on his flaws this offseason, Raider fans should be excited.

Last season was a failure for Russell, but it's what a man does with his failures that will lead him to success.

Thomas Edison when asked how it felt to fail 2000 times trying to invent the light bulb said,  "I never failed once...It just happened to be a 2000-step process."

Coming into voluntary workouts in shape is only step one for Russell. He has a lot of work to do, but it appears that he's put in the work necessary for now.
