Oakland Raiders: Are We There Yet?

The Oakland Raiders version of "Are We There Yet?" is a drama about Raider Nation's journey to get there after seven horrible years. It's far from Ice Cube's sitcom.

However, the happier part of the drama is coming. I've seen many articles of how the Raiders have come back into prominence.

I'm guilty of joining this party as I wrote articles arguing we could win the AFC due to weaker competition. I have since settled down a bit.

The Chargers are still the clear-cut favorites to win the AFC West. But they have two important players likely to sit out next season until Week Ten.

Meanwhile, the Raiders have had a great offseason. The draft and free agency has given them just about everything they could want.

I say just about because the Raiders still have issues. Raider Nation has rightfully celebrated the Raider's recent aquisitions and improvement but they are not there yet.

What still needs improving?

Not the kicking game but let's take a look at the team and see.

The defensive secondary is now solid. It just might end up being a special unit.

Nnamdi Asomugha is the best corner in the game period. He was thrown at only 28 teams last year and he's still in his prime.

Chris Johnson will be on the other side at corner. He will come back with a good year after courageously fighting a knee injury last year.

Huff has stayed the course and had a breakthrough year at his natural position of free safety. He should have a breakout year as he returns at free safety.

Tyvon Branch was a beast last year leading all safeties in tackles. He is also fast with improving coverage skills. That will serve him well this year.

The Raider linebacking corps has been revamped. First round pick Rolando McClain is the run stopping portion in the middle.
