Up to this point, the Donovan McNabb trade has had a glaring effect on prospect Jimmy Clausen.
In recent weeks, Clausen seemed to find himself jumping into the top five with the Washington Redskins. However, it is highly doubtful now with McNabb in tow that Washington selects a quarterback in the first round.
Now, Clausen's stock remains unknown. The Seattle Seahawks and the Buffalo Bills are the likely candidates at this point. Many believe that if Clausen slides past Buffalo, he will fall into the middle or late part of the first round.
We may have to start considering the Oakland Raiders as a possibility, though.
With the eighth overall selection, the glaring need for Oakland is the offensive line. Names such as Trent Williams and Bruce Campbell come to mind when dealing with Oakland.
Yet, most know by now the uncertainty of any selection Al Davis makes. According to ESPN's Mel Kiper, "the money given to JaMarcus Russell would not prevent finance issues for the front office."
So to put it in simple terms, Kiper is saying the Raiders should select Jimmy Clausen. Clausen is a California native, and Kiper believes Clausen would be a perfect fit for the silver and black.
I don't feel Clausen should be selected by the Raiders, however. First and foremost, the Raiders need to upgrade their offensive line immensely.
Maybe at this point in time I am standing up for JaMarcus Russell. There is not one successful quarterback in this league that does not have a left tackle protecting their blind side.
