Mike Leach to the Raiders: So Crazy It Just Might Work

Rumors are circulating on ESPN that Oakland Raiders head coach Tom Cable may be fired this offseason, and some are suggesting that former Texas Tech head coach Mike Leach would be a good fit for the Raiders since he may just be crazy enough to co-exist with owner Al Davis. Yahoo! Sports suggested this as a joke, but actually, it makes sense.

Leach could bring new life to a moribund Raiders offense, and allegedly asking a concussed college student to sit in a dark shed may be considered to be a lesser evil than allegedly assaulting an assistant coach.

Yeah, the idea is nuts. And Leach will likely lay low before being hired again—and yes, he will be hired again. It all hinges on the possibility that Cable will not return for next year. But stranger things have happened, like two NBA players allegedly pulling guns on each other in a locker room.

Either way, Leach should at least give Davis a call and put some feelers out. If the recession has taught us nothing else, it's that when you lose your job suddenly, the best thing to do is reach out to potential future employers as soon as possible. That's what Leach should do.

After all, it can't get any more dysfunctional in Oakland, can it?
