Mike Goodson: Updated Fantasy Outlook & Analysis After Darren McFadden Injury

Mike Goodson took snaps for the Oakland Raiders after Darren McFadden left their Sunday afternoon matchup with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers early. ESPN’s Adam Schefter and NFL.com report that his injury was a high ankle sprain:

Also according to ESPN, McFadden is considered week to week. Fantasy football owners should turn to Goodson with limited expectations as he also left the Raiders’ Week 9 contest:

McFadden finished the game with 17 total yards on nine touches. Goodson had 52 total yards on eight touches. Running back Taiwan Jones took a carry and a catch for six total yards, but it was fullback Marcel Reece who was on the field most frequently after Goodson left the game.

Reece caught eight Carson Palmer passes out of the backfield for 95 yards and a touchdown. If Goodson and McFadden are out next week, Reece would be worth a pickup—and perhaps a desperation fantasy start—against the Baltimore Ravens in Week 10.

If Goodson plays next week and McFadden doesn’t, he should be able to take most of the carries for the Raiders and post a solid fantasy day against the Ravens. Baltimore has allowed a running back to reach at least 93 rushing yards against its defense in each of the last four games.

Goodson also adds value as a receiver out of the backfield. He has almost as many catches this season (14) as rushing attempts (17) in eight games. His workload has been light in the 2012 season, but Goodson has had back-to-back games with 20 or more carries in his career.
