Wimbley who was acquired in a trade with the Cleveland Browns this past offseason, has severely underperformed in his four-year career with the exception of his rookie season when he registered 11 sacks for the Browns.
In 2009, when Browns Head Coach Eric Mangini took over, it was believed by both NFL experts and Browns fans that Mangini would be the coach to fully unlock Wimbley's potential as a pass rushing outside linebacker.
After the 2009 season ended, Wimbley had only managed 6.5 sacks and one forced fumble and he then became trade bait to move on since he was obviously not the type of outside linebacker that both Mangini and Defensive Coordinator Rob Ryan expected.
One phone call to the Raiders was made and they jumped on the chance to trade for the former Florida State alumnus and former first round pick for 2010 third rounder of which the Browns used to select their hopefully future franchise quarterback Colt McCoy.
Wimbley on the other hand, had a chance for a fresh start from scratch with the Raiders as their hopeful pass rushing threat.
After not registering any stats in the Raiders' preseason opener versus the Dallas Cowboys, Wimbley stepped onto the football field in the silver and black for the first time against the Bears.
Boy did Wimbley not disappoint Raider Nation too.
Wimbley led the Raiders' defense with six total tackles (all solo) along with four sacks of Cutler in the first half.
Whether this was a showing of Wimbley's full potential or the Bears' terrible offensive line will be played out as the preseason continues and regular season arrives, but Wimbley definitely showed he was worthy of the third round pick Saturday night.
