JaMarcus Russell to Be Cut By the Oakland Raiders?

John Clayton from ESPN has reported that the Raiders are preparing to cut JaMarcus Russell.

If this is true it should come as no surprise following the Jason Campbell trade. Russell has failed to live up to the expectations of a No. 1 pick, and last season was the worst season of his football career.

There were many reasons why Russell has failed up to this point. His work ethic has been questioned by almost everybody. The Raiders also failed to surround him with the talent needed for a young quarterback to succeed.

All signs pointed to Russell being the starter again when Willie Brown reported Russell had been working out in Arizona all offseason with a Raiders representative. The Raiders must have thought it was not enough, and were rumored to be the favorites for many quarterbacks that were on the market.

While nothing is official now, this could happen sometime soon. ESPN has been wrong on many occasions when dealing with the Raiders.

Head coach Tom Cable said he expected Russell to be at camp on Friday with the rest of the team, and even went as far as saying Russell could be the starter if he did what he needed to do.

Until now this is only a report, but actions speak louder than words and the Raiders' actions over the last weekend showed their lack of confidence in Russell.

If this is true a fresh start for both parties could be the best thing to happen to the both of them. Stay tuned for more information.
