Of all teams, the Redskins were the ones that no one expected to make the move. It was rumored that the Raiders or Bills would break the ice and trade for McNabb. Those rumors were obviously just, well, rumors.
The deal is reportedly for the 37th overall pick in the draft, just two picks ahead of the Raiders' second round selection.
First when all these rumors started to arise, I was excited about the idea. The thought of having Donovan McNabb in a silver and black uniform? I immediately thought about the possibilities that could have come with McNabb, such as playoffs and the return to greatness where we dominated the AFC West.
But then reality struck me. McNabb would not work well in Oakland. For one, he's stated that he doesn't not want to play for the Raiders. I've always believed that if a player doesn't want to play for us, well, then screw him. He's not worth it. Plus, he only has one year left on his contract, meaning by the end of the season, he'll be gone and we'll be back to where we are right now.
Another thing is that he's 33 now. In the last five years or so, McNabb has been consistently hurt. Bringing a now injury prone quarterback in his 30s to play behind our offensive line, which is one of the bottom in the league, is not such a great idea. Though, it would be a fun game to see how many plays it takes for McNabb to leave the field due to injury.
Now that I think about it, the only good thing that could have came from trading for McNabb is that we would give JaMarcus Russell a veteran quarterback who can teach him the ins and outs of the game.
In the end, I, for one, am happy that we did not trade for Donovan McNabb. Yes, he would be good for Oakland now, but not for the future. The best choice for the future of the Raider Nation is to improve the game o...
