Donovan McNabb: Do Philadelphia Eagles Have Leverage in Trading Veteran QB?

The rumor mill is a-buzzing that the Philadelphia Eagles have put quarterback Donovan McNabb on the trading block.

Reportedly, the Eagles wanted two first-round picks and a third-round pick. Now, the Eagles would be satisfied with a high second-round pick, which would imply Oakland or Buffalo as the likely trading partner.

Both clubs are rumored to have inquired about McNabb, which raises questions about the Raiders, but most importantly, this situation is a curious one, because it seems to me that the Eagles have no leverage in any trade.

Everyone knows that the Eagles want to move forward with Kevin Kolb, but also signed Michael Vick last offseason. Clearly, McNabb is a luxury at this point, so to demand a high draft pick must mean that the Eagles expect another club to trade fair value for McNabb's talent, when clearly McNabb is no longer in Philadelphia's plans.

The Iggles could very well just release McNabb outright, but they're hoping that some team will bite. Such as the Raiders. Any Raider fan knows that if Al Davis wants a player, he takes no chances in getting him. Would it make sense for the Raiders? It would, but it would raise obvious questions about the future (or lack thereof) for JaMarcus Russell. Perhaps, the Raiders could acquire McNabb and then ship Russell to Cleveland or Buffalo.
