Coliseum City Project Would Keep Raiders, Warriors and A’s in Oakland

The city of Oakland's marquee professional teams—the Oakland Raiders, Oakland Athletics and Golden State Warriors—have been in limbo as surrounding areas eye relocation. But the city is putting together a plan to nail their futures down long term.

A report from Contra Costa Times outlines how a group of Raiders fans were expected to attend an Oakland City Council meeting on Tuesday evening in order to express support for the Coliseum City project, a movement which would not only revolutionize the city, but add a new stadium.

At Tuesday's meeting, board members approved a 12-month extension to continue negotiations over the groundbreaking deal, according to CSN's Scott Blair:

According to the report, season ticket holder Ray Perez led the contingency of diehard fans donning silver and black who showed up to attempt to give the Coliseum City project a shot in the arm.

Some "deep-pocket" investors have already expressed financial support for the plan, which is expected to be a multibillion-dollar project.

Each of the three Oakland-based professional teams have endured a fair share of rumors about attempted moves. Recently, the Associated Press via ESPN reported talks of an A's move to San Jose reached the federal court.

The Warriors' deal in Oakland expires in 2016-17, and renderings of a new arena along the San Francisco Bay have already been released according to SFGate.com.

As for the Raiders, their never-ending saga of a potential return to Los Angeles reached another level just before this season when a Sporting News report claimed the move as "inevitable."

Losing any of these clubs would be detrimental to the city's sports scene. The Raiders are arguably the city's flagship organization, winning two championships in Oakland and in the midst of their second tenure in the city after moving back from L.A.
