Chris Johnson Raiders: Sadness Fills Raider Nation as Johnson’s Sister Murdered

Oakland Raiders cornerback Chris Johnson will be with his family for the next few days as he deals with the loss of his sister who was fatally shot and mother who also sustained gunshot wounds.

The Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports 33-year-old Jennifer Johnson has died from gunshots wounds after an altercation with her estranged boyfriend Eugene Esters, Monday.

Johnson's mother was also shot by Esters when she came to the La Plaza apartment complex on Woodhaven Boulevard to help jump her daughter's car.

Della Johnson, 53, is expected to survive her injury. The shooting started shortly after 3 p.m. on Monday after Esters and Jennifer Johnson argued. She was then taken to John Peter Smith Hospital where she was pronounced dead at 3:50 p.m.

For the Raiders defender, he is away from the team but is expected to be back in time for the game against the Packers on Sunday.

Head coach Hue Jackson had this to say to reporters. Per an NFL.com report:

This is a game of football. The thing he's dealing with is a game of life. We'll get him back here pretty soon. Very, very tough situation that he's dealing with. But the organization supports him, I support him, he'll get back here and be ready to go.

Deanna Boyd, writing for The Fort Worth Star-Telegram, states Esters has been arrested and was in Mansfield Jail on Tuesday night with bail set at $750,000. He now faces charges of murder and attempted murder.

The thoughts of every NFL fan are with Chris Johnson at this horrible time. While he is expected back by Sunday, I think we can all agree we do not fault him if he just can't make it.
