2010 NFL Draft: Should The Oakland Raiders Trade Nnamdi Asomugha?

I decided to begrudgingly write this article, because the topic won't go away. That topic of course is whether the Oakland Raiders should trade cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha.

Asomugha is easilya top-three cornerback in the NFL, along with Charles Woodson and Darrelle Revis. Personally, I would give Nnamdi a slight edge, because Woodson and Revis are part of better overall defenses.

I would only trade Asomugha on one condition—if the Raiders can move into the top three of the NFL Draft and select either DT Ndamukong Suh or Gerald McCoy.

Detroit seems like the only possibility, because the Lions could trade down and still select an offensive tackle and thus protect the investments made in Matthew Stafford and Calvin Johnson.

Asomugha would also be a good fit in the defense of Lions coach Jim Schwartz. Many Raider fans think that the Raiders must select an offensive tackle in the top 10, when really, the 10 would merely allow LT Mario Henderson to play the right side.

Thus, the Raiders should be able to find prospects for the right side in lower rounds. The Raiders could also add a cornerback (ex, Brandon Ghee, AJ Jefferson) in the second or third round; and even move safety Michael Huff back to his college position of cornerback.

I think this scenario makes sense for both clubs, but rarely if ever does the NFL see things that make sense.
