We're a long way from 1995-1996, back when Michael Jordan perhaps felt some pressure to win more regular-season games than anyone ever had. That contrasts today's NBA, where coaches and players are more cautious, favoring rest toward the end.
As for the Lakers, it remains to be seen just how good they'll be. If Nash, Bryant, Gasol and Howard fit perfectly and stay healthy, they could be as good as any team in league history.
But so much has to go right for L.A. The older roster must stay healthy, the superstars must play well together, and Dwight must actually return from back surgery. Los Angeles has a ceiling as high as '95-'96, but they also might lose more games than Miami, San Antonio and Oklahoma City.
