Steve Nash Will Make Waves with the Lakers

The Lakers really shook things up after falling to the Oklahoma City Thunder in the playoffs this year.

And that might merely be an understatement. They took free agency by storm mirroring the hated actions of the Miami Heat. Antawn Jamison was a significant upgrade as a sixth man with the added promise of becoming the next Lamar Odom for the purple and yellow. Dwight Howard created a media frenzy in the off-season, but finally landed in LA where he has found a new home.

But Steve Nash was something else entirely.

The former Phoenix Sun served as the star player that led the conference rivalry with the Lakers. LA fans remember him for his sheer ability to pass the ball and for a relatively down-to-earth personality that could not be hated, despite the rivalry.

But when Nash chose to come over to play beside Kobe Bryant, LA fans rejoiced. He can be remembered for accepting a can of beer from a group of exuberant fans on a busy California freeway.

However, the promise behind Nash's signing cannot go overlooked. Derek Fisher has a place in the Laker folklore and will be remembered for his ability to hit three-pointers. But Nash is something else entirely. For the first time in recent years, the Lakers are going to field a point guard who has the ability to see the game with a pass-first mentality and the potential to average over ten assists a game.

Now, defenses will have to adjust for Nash, opening up the court for Bryant, Howard and Gasol to get open and hit the open shot. The dynamic aspects of the Lakers' game has been completely elevated. The future looks bright.

And as a local fan, I could not even in words express my utter excitement.
