Steve Nash Goes Hollywood, This Time with the Godfather

Steve Nash, you magnificent weirdo. Like his point guard buddy Baron Davis, Steve Nash is an aspiring filmmaker in his off time. Such a diversion might incur criticism were Nash not so good at his craft, and not so charming off the court.

In this instance, he parodies the Godfather, for reasons no one can really know. My guess? Nash has a killer Marlon Brando impersonation, and has been just itching to give it circumstance. In the video, Steve talks of wanting the lead role in a Godfather movie, and Nash trains for Brando's muttering part by stuffing his mouth with grapes.

The device is especially interesting because Brando's Vito Corleone died with orange slices in mouth. Even odder, the short film shows Nash signing a fan's autograph while Steve stays in character as the mob moss. The depicted fan does not acknowledge the bizarre situation and even takes a grape when Steve Nash offers.

It all reminds of when former Laker center Shaquille O'Neal compared (via Bill Simmons) Kobe Bryant to Sonny Corleone, Dwyane Wade to Michael Corleone, and Penny Hardaway to Fredo. In the film Nash says, "Ya, he offered me Fredo, but I don't see myself doing it if I'm not the Godfather." Shaq never compared any player to the Godfather. Perhaps Steve, elder statesman that he is, can be the Lakers' Vito Corleone.
