Artest has been open about the fact that he's struggled with mental issues in the past and he announced that he wanted to make a difference for those who are going through similar struggles. So to do that, he decided that he would raffle off his championship ring that he received as a member of the Lakers last year.
In that auction, he raised over $500,000, after a father of four purchased the ring.
"It's a good feeling, because it got a lot of publicity, and that's cool," Artest said to the media. "I'm glad we can start over now and do some more work with charities."
For all of the bad publicity that Artest has had during his career, and rightfully so, it's good to see him doing things for people less fortunate than him and pushing to continue more work for the cause. If only there were more stories like this.
Kudos to Ron Artest, and hopefully at some point he can get a second ring so he can keep that one for himself.
