Phil Jackson has no intention of trying to win 70-plus games for the Lakers.

And nor should he. Really, what does he have to prove during meaningless games? These comments come after Jackson admitted today his Lakers had no chance of challenging the Bulls 72-win season when he was their coach in the 1990s during Michael Jordan’s prime.

After a hot 8-0 start where the Lakers were thoroughly dominating, the two-time defending NBA Champions look as good if not better than in years past. Last night, they faced their first road block of the season: a LOSS to the Denver Nuggets.

Big deal. People are overreacting a bit, saying "ooh ahh, we might not challenge it now."

Guess what? Jackson doesnt want to.

He has a plan in motion that will give this team the best opportunity to three-peat, which is far more important than any regular-season record that could be accomplished.
