Pau Gasol Trade Rumors: Breaking Down Lakers Haul In Possible Deal

The Los Angeles Lakers need a point guard to improve the team, and it seems the only way to obtain one is to part with Pau Gasol.

Sitting at third place in the Western Conference is not the worst position, but this team will not be satisfied at the end of the season unless they are raising the Larry O'Brien Trophy.

With the amount of talent on the roster, the Lakers do not necessarily need to find an elite point guard. They simply need an upgrade over the aging Derek Fisher.

If Los Angeles is willing to part with Gasol—which is not guaranteed—there are a few different directions the team can go.

Over the past week, many were speculating a trade for Rajon Rondo of the Celtics, but FOX Sports West is reporting that discussions have dried up.

Luckily, Rondo is not the only talented point guard on the market.

Two other potential targets for the Lakers are Cleveland's Ramon Sessions and Portland's Raymond Felton.

Sessions is a talented young player that has the ability to shine in the right situation, but is now expendable for the Cavaliers thanks to the sensational rookie year of Kyrie Irving.

Felton, however, might be a better option for the current team. He has more experience as a starter and would be able to contribute right away as the Lakers attempt a championship run.

Los Angeles needs to make a move to get better. The team is not getting any younger, meaning they must go all out to win now.

Since the squad is unlikely to part with the younger Andrew Bynum, Gasol better start packing his bags to prepare for the eventual move.
