Now a member of the New York Knicks, World Peace apparently doesn't think all of the changes Los Angeles has gone through during the offseason will have an adverse impact on their postseason chances.
World Peace gone? No problem. Dwight Howard in Houston? Doesn't matter. Kobe Bryant, Steve Nash and Pau Gasol all coming off of injuries? It's all just a minor setback for a major comeback, according to World Peace.
The enigmatic forward told Mike Mazzeo of ESPN New York that he thinks the Lakers are going to the 2013-14 NBA Finals.
"I think the Lakers are going to go to the NBA Finals," he said. But he didn't just stop there.
I think Kobe [Bryant's] gonna be healthy, they're gonna get Pau [Gasol]. The Lakers are gonna make a big trade like they always do. They're gonna get another good player, boom, boom, and they're gonna go back to the Finals. I believe it. Kobe's gonna come back, he's gonna play team ball, and Pau's gonna play well.
Leave it to World Peace to warm the hearts of the footy-pajama-wearing Lakers fans who are holding out playoff hope for this squad.
World Peace was waived by the Lakers via the amnesty clause during the offseason, but he's no stranger to making predictions about his old team.
When the Lakers acquired both Nash and Howard during the 2012 offseason, World Peace famously told ESPN radio in Los Angeles (via Chris Fedor of SportsRadioInterviews), that the team was gunning for the Chicago Bulls' regular-season record of 72-10.
"We definitely want to beat the Bulls record and go 73-9, that's definitely something that I want to do."
