Los Angeles Lakers Should Sign Terrence Williams to Replace Matt Barnes

After shooting just 27% from the field this postseason, the Lakers would be wise to not re-sign Matt Barnes and find someone else who can be an effective back-up small forward. There are a couple of names out there that would be worthy replacements, one of them is Terrence Williams.

The Sacramento Kings decided not to extend a qualifying offer to Williams this offseason, making him an unrestricted free agent. After being drafted 11th overall by the New Jersey Nets in the 2009 draft, Williams has yet to live up to the potential that Rod Thorn saw when he picked the Louisville forward. However, as a backup Williams could be very effective.

After struggling in Houston last season, Williams was traded to Sacramento where he started to really pick up his game. In 18 games with the Kings, T-Will averaged 8.8 points per game, 4.1 rebounds per game and 3.1 assists per game. Due to his incredible athleticism, Williams can play multiple positions and is a match-up problem for whoever is covering him.

The Lakers still have their mini mid-level exception left which could be enough to lure Williams to Los Angeles. Playing with Steve Nash would be great for Williams who is very effective on the fast break. This is a signing that works for both sides and should get done if Los Angeles is serious about winning a title next season.
