In other news, Rockets corner-man Luis Scola has just been amnestied by the Rockets in an all-in move to get Dwight Howard.
If small-market teams pass on the 32-year-old Argentinean (remember, under-the-cap teams getting first crack at amnestied players is one of many provisions benefiting small markets), the Lakers should definitely add him to their list of people under consideration.
One of the holes the Lakers need to fill is a backup power forward or corner-man slot, upgrading on Josh McRoberts and Christian Eyenga who were playing the position last year. Though Scola usually plays the power forward, at six-nine, he's also about the right height for dropping down to the small forward.
You also have to consider the type of offense the Lakers will be running with Steve Nash at the point. With Nash, you need a fast-paced, high-scoring offense.
Scola is a pretty consistent scorer, averaging 15 or more points per game in his last three seasons while shooting around .500 from the field. He's also averaged eight or more rebounds a game in three of his last four seasons.
Scola is also younger than Brand, Jamison or O'Neal. In addition to that, he's been the least injury-prone of the four, missing only eight games in five seasons with the Rockets.
Furthermore, with a Canadian point guard and a Spanish forward-center it seems a good fit to add an Argentinean corner-man.
