Los Angeles Lakers Set Franchise Record with 19 3-Pointers in 1 Game

The Los Angeles Lakers made 19 three-point shots in Friday's 126-122 win over the Sacramento Kings, breaking a franchise record for most three-pointers made in a non-overtime game. The previous record of 18 was set earlier this season, in a Feb. 5 win over the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Perhaps more impressive than the 19 successful conversions was the fact that Los Angeles needed just 27 trey attempts to break the record. The Lakers shot a sizzling 70.4 percent from beyond the arc Friday, after shooting a more modest 48.6 percent (18 of 37) in the previous record-breaking performance on Feb. 5.

Point guard Jordan Farmar led the way in Friday's win, making eight of his 10 three-point attempts as part of a 30-point, seven-assist showing. Jodie Meeks and the recently-acquired MarShon Brooks both made all three of their attempts from behind the arc, while Wesley Johnson and Kent Bazemore pitched in with two treys apiece. Backup power forward Ryan Kelly rounded out the party by converting his lone three-point attempt.

None of the aforementioned contributors has ever played in an All-Star Game, and in all likelihood, none of them ever will. With Kobe Bryant, Steve Nash and Pau Gasol all losing significant time to injuries this season, the Lakers' campaign has largely been defined by no-names and overstretched role players, with the likes of Meeks and Kendall Marshall in starring roles.

Utilizing coach Mike D'Antoni's fast-paced, trigger-happy approach, the Lakers have now twice broken the single-game franchise record for three-pointers. Say what you want about D'Antoni's effectiveness as a coach, but there's no question that his style makes the Lakers more interesting to watch during a season that no coach could have salvaged.
