Lakers Trade Rumors: Pau Gasol Must Be Traded for L.A. to Move Forward

The Los Angeles Lakers need to trade star forward Pau Gasol so both the player and team can move forward after months of distractions.

According to Roland Lazenby, a Gasol trade is imminent, although there aren't any details on what team(s) is involved.

It seems we'll soon be getting news that Gasol has been traded. No details confirmed, but he's apparently gone.

Rumors surrounding Gasol's future have clearly bothered him this season. He wasn't happy after the team had a deal in place to send him to the Houston Rockets as part of the nixed Chris Paul trade before the season. Gasol was also part of rumors that included him joining fellow Spaniard Ricky Rubio on the Minnesota Timberwolves.

The Lakers would be better off trading Gasol and rebuilding their team rather than trying to make another run toward an NBA championship.

With young center Andrew Bynum, the team already has a star big man to build around going forward, but their lack of a true point guard is really hurting their ability to get back to the Finals.

Trading Gasol for a star point guard is the best plan for the Lakers as they build toward a winning future.

At 37 years old, veteran point guard Derek Fisher is not the player he once was and cannot play well consistently at either end of the floor. Steve Blake, whom the Lakers signed as a free agent before last season, has been a massive disappointment and has also battled some injuries.



Unless the Lakers can find a true point guard who can be a playmaker and play solid defense, they won't be a title contender anytime soon.

Even at 31 years old, Gasol is still an effective player at both ends of the floor and should have a lot of value to many teams at the trade deadline.
