That must be a head-scratcher in Phoenix, and maybe even L.A., as the Los Angeles Lakers defeated the Phoenix Suns in a pivotal Game Five. With just over a second remaining in the game, Artest caught an errant Kobe Bryant air ball and banked in a five-footer for the win.
This followed a barrage of offensive rebounds the Suns grabbed off three three-pointers, the last of which was banked in by Jason Richardson to tie the game, 101-101.
At the other end of the court, Artest was able to squeeze by Richardson, who failed to box him out, and score the winning bucket with no one on him as the buzzer sounded.
Steve Nash was the high scorer for the Suns with 29 points on 12-20 shooting to go along with 11 assists. Despite his air ball at the end of the game, Kobe Bryant just missed a triple-double, as he finished with a game-high 30 points, 11 rebounds, and nine assists.
The Suns return to Phoenix with history against them and the frustration of coming back from 18 points down only to lose at the buzzer.
