The Lakers sit at 17-24. That leaves them in 12th place in the Western Conference and four games out of the all-important eighth spot.
As a result, the Lakers are looking for ways to improve their team.
FOX Sports' Sam Amico shares one of those ways:
Lakers are said to have a strong interest in Cavs' Daniel Gibson, a natural in D'Antoni's system, but have nothing to offer.
— Sam Amico (@SamAmicoFSO) January 21, 2013 Gibson would not be overly costly. He's only playing 22.7 minutes per game this season, and the Cavs are even further out of the playoff race than the Lakers. They have little use for the 26-year-old guard.
What the Lakers could use him for is his defense. It is not elite by league standards, but it is when compared to what the Lakers are currently getting from their guards, and his presence would ease the demands on Kobe Bryant. However, as Amico stated, the Lakers have nothing to offer.
There is one piece they'd likely be willing to move, that another team would actually want, but the Lakers' demands on the return for that player making dealing him unlikely as well. Yahoo! Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski explains:
Trade market for Pau Gasol complicated because Lakers have made clear that they don't want back long-term money in deal, league sources say.

In other words, teams are not going to jump up and mortgage their future by sending off contracts that would free up cap space to land Gasol.
