LakerAlert: Kobe Bryant Blasts Lakers for Recent Poor Play

It appears Laker fans aren’t the only ones irritated with the Purple and Gold. It was revealed the team held a meeting after our loss to the Bobcats, which saw Kobe Bryant take the mic and send a stern message to the squad about their lack of intensity, particularly on D.

Phil Jackson speaking about the gathering before Sunday’s Orlando Magic game:

“We’re just working with some principles right now that have escaped us as far as what we consider good defense. I kind of opened it up for how are we going to solve some of these problems that we have, basically penetration off screen-roll which has been a nemesis and is for most teams.”

“We were working on some of the principles and [Bryant] brought up a notion of determination. Here’s a willfulness that you have to have in this game and there’s also a flexibility and the willfulness carries the day most of the time, about 80 percent of the time. There’s strategy and then there’s getting the job done.”

When Kobe was asked how the team received the pep-talk, 24 didn’t offer the most compassionate of responses.

“I don’t give a [expletive]… It was received.”

PJ said others spoke-up as well, and it appears Pau Gasol was one of them.

“We talked a little bit about what we have to do, especially defensively in a couple situations where we need to tighten up and stop certain things out there. Then a couple other things, just to make sure we communicated with each other and we’re all on the same page and we understand we’re here to get that ultimate goal and if we want to get there, there’s things that need to get done.”

When asked if he thought the pow-wow would help our squad get back on the championship track, Phil didn’t appear convinced.
