With the big win, Los Angeles has now closed to within 2.5 games of the San Antonio Spurs for the best record in the Western Conference. The Spurs are in the midst of their first five-game losing streak since the 1996-1997 season. Every team has suffered at least six such losing streaks since that time.
Boston may not be able to catch the Chicago Bulls for the top spot in the Eastern Conference, but they can still finish ahead of the Miami Heat for the No. 2 overall seed for the playoffs.
But the Spurs may not be able to hold on to the top spot, and even if they do, I still feel that they are far inferior to the Lakers.
