The couple, which was together for more than 10 years, is no longer after Vanessa filed for divorce on Friday, according to Victoria Kim of the Sacramento Bee. Vanessa also cited "irreconcilable differences" as the reason behind the divorce.
According to the Los Angeles Times, the Bryants could not agree upon a prenuptial agreement prior to their marriage. Because of that, Vanessa figures to do quite well when it comes time to divide the couple's assets.
Normally I would be on Kobe's side, but he essentially gave up the right to sympathy when he committed adultery. In 2003, Bryant was accused of sexual assault by Katelyn Faber, a then-19-year-old hotel employee in Eagle, Co. The assault case was eventually dropped as Faber refused to testify, but Bryant ultimately admitted to being unfaithful to his wife.
Despite that, Vanessa stood by him and decided to give him a chance to win back her trust. While some may view that as a dumb or money-motivated move by Vanessa, it is incredible how understanding she was. The fact that she stayed with Kobe through that incident should tell you that money has nothing to do with this divorce.
Vanessa could have easily divorced Kobe immediately after the allegations and still come away with millions upon millions of dollars. She tried to make things work, though, and for about eight years the marriage continued, but I get the feeling that Kobe's past infidelity always weighed on her mind.
