Randle Cleared for Non-Contact Basketball Activities Monday, March 9 Both Randle and the Lakers received excellent news Monday, as the rookie forward has been cleared for certain drills, per the team's official Twitter account:
Randle, 20, was the No. 7 overall pick in the 2014 NBA draft after starring for the Kentucky Wildcats. He played in just one game for the team before being lost to the injury, scoring two points in 14 minutes.
Randle won't be returning this season, of course, and he probably would be kept on the bench even if he could finish the season. The Lakers should be in full tank mode at this point, as they will lose their top-five protected pick to the Philadelphia 76ers if they end up with the sixth pick or worse.
Still, the fact that Randle seems to be progressing nicely from his injury is an excellent sign for the Lakers, who will hope his return from injury, along with getting Kobe Bryant back and potentially another lottery pick to add to the fold, will help the team return to contender status. The team will also likely need to be players in free agency if it is to go from one of the league's worst teams to one of its better units.
Getting Randle back will certainly help. While it's uncertain how the youngster will fare in the NBA, he certainly has the potential to be an excellent player. The Lakers will be banking on it next season.
