Lakers fans have been salivating for an answer at the point guard position. After suffering through Derek Fisher's decline this season, the team traded for Ramon Sessions. While Sessions was productive during the regular season (12.7 points, 6.2 assists per game), the 26-year-old stumbled very noticeably in the playoffs.
In his first postseason experience, Sessions fell flat on his face. Averaging just 9.7 points and 3.6 assists on 37.7 percent shooting, Sessions' improved perimeter game was nowhere to be found. He managed to convert just 4-of-25 opportunities from behind the three-point line, and Sessions often gave way to Steve Blake down the stretch.
The more alarming issue with Sessions is how uncomfortable he looked running the offense—and that's being generous. Sessions didn't look like a player who was capable of controlling the flow of a game, and that's what this Lakers team needs. Los Angeles needs someone Kobe Bryant wouldn't hesitate sharing the ball with, and those players are few and far between.
Here's where we arrive at the D-Will scenario. Although the Lakers don't have the cap space to make a free agent bid on his services, the Lakers could choose to dangle Pau Gasol in a sign-and-trade offer to Brooklyn in order to land Williams.
It's not going to be easy. Williams would have to virtually demand a sign-and-trade scenario that lands him in Los Angeles, but the chance to play alongside Bryant and for the Lakers isn't an opportunity that presents itself regularly. For Williams, he'd be able to play for a title now as well as be the epicenter of the franchise after Bryant retires.
