Stanley Cup Finals 2012: Will the Stanley Cup Be Hoisted Tonight?

Epic: the one word that can adequately describe the Los Angeles Kings’ playoff run in the 2012 Stanley Cup Playoffs thus far.

They came from behind and have absolutely ravaged all the competition.

In just 14 games, they eliminated the first, second and third-seeded teams in the Western Conference.

Tonight, the only thing standing between the Kings and the Stanley Cup is 60 minutes of hockey—and the New Jersey Devils.

By winning tonight and sweeping the Devils, the Kings can do what Wayne Gretzky and the Kings couldn’t in 1993—win hockey’s grandest prize.

Coming off their 4-0 shutout win over the Devils in Monday’s Game 3, the Kings must be riding high. On the other hand, Peter DeBoer’s Devils must be shaken by their shutout loss.

The Kings have given hockey fans every reason to believe they will complete their legendary postseason by sweeping the Devils and winning the Cup.

Los Angeles’ offensive guns have been aimed on Devils goaltender Martin Brodeur. Anze Kopitar, Justin Williams, and Jeff Carter are among the Kings’ top offensive players in this series.

Kopitar has been one of the most consistent forwards for Los Angeles, recording 14 points in the last 11 games.

With Conn Smythe front-runner Jonathan Quick leading the Kings’ rampage through the playoffs, the Kings have all but won the Cup.

Throughout three games in this series, Quick has only allowed two goals on 72 shots.

Brodeur’s performance as netminder has been less than stellar. The veteran goalie has allowed eight goals in the three games in this series.

Momentum is certainly in the Kings’ favor. Could they be the first team to sweep the Devils in the Stanley Cup finals?

Will we see Dustin Brown and the Kings hoist the Cup tonight?

We’ll know in a few short hours. Until ...
