Marian Gaborik Injury: Updates on Kings Star’s Foot and Return

The Los Angeles Kings will be without Marian Gaborik until around Thanksgiving as he recovers from a broken foot, according to the Associated Press' Greg Beacham.

Kings Place Gaborik on Injured ReserveThursday, Oct. 6The 34-year-old suffered the injury during Team Europe's 3-2 semifinal victory over Sweden on Sept. 25 at the 2016 World Cup of Hockey.

The team's decision to put the veteran forward on injured reserve doesn't come as a surprise. Shortly after Gaborik broke his foot, Kings general manager Dean Lombardi confirmed he was likely looking at eight weeks away from the ice.

Kings coach Darryl Sutter said Wednesday that doctors will re-evaluate the foot at the three-week mark of Gaborik's recovery, according to Jon Rosen of Fox Sports West.

Gaborik is coming off a disappointing 2015-16 season. He played in 54 games and notched a career-low 22 points (12 goals, 10 assists). Despite that, his impressive body of work over his 15-year career force opponents to at least respect his threat in the attack.

The compressed regular-season schedules resulting from the World Cup mean the length of Gaborik's absence could be a bigger blow that it would've been in past years. Should he be out until Thanksgiving, he will have missed 21 games.

Gaborik isn't one of the Kings' most important players, but he adds nice depth. Until he returns, Los Angeles will have a big gap on its second line.
