Los Angeles Kings vs Dallas Stars: Jonathan Quick Goes for 3rd Straight Shutout

Jonathan Quick will start in goal Saturday night against the Dallas Stars at the Staples Center.

Through six games, the Los Angeles Kings are 4-1-1, with their only loss coming against Buffalo. The loss against Buffalo was played in Berlin and Quick was not in goal. Coach Terry Murray started Jonathan Bernier in what has been his only start of the season thus far.

Prior to the season, Murray stated he would prefer to have Quick play a max of 60 games. In comparison to last year (61 games), there is not much of a difference. The challenge for Murray has been knowing when to give Quick a rest, and when to let him continue his hot streak.

Through his first five starts, Quick has stopped 152 of 157 shots (.967), and compiled a 4-0-1 record. He has earned a shutout in his last two games and looks to help the Kings earn their first three-game shutout streak since the 1967-68 season.

Should the Kings match a 43-year-old record by getting their third straight shutout win, they will have to do so against a streaking Dallas Stars team. Dallas has jumped out to a 6-1-0 record and is currently on a five-game winning streak. They completed the first half of their SoCal swing Friday night with a 3-1 win over the Anaheim Ducks.

Dallas is averaging nearly three goals per game (2.71) and goalie Kari Lehtonen has a spotless 6-0-0 record.

There is a good chance that Dallas coach Glen Gulutzan will rest Lehtonen due it being the second part of back to back games. Should that be the case, Dallas will then go with Andrew Raycroft. Raycroft was throttled by the Chicago Blackhawks on October 8th in a 5-2 loss.
