Led by star goaltender Jonathan Quick's five clean sheets, the 44-26-6 Kings have also gotten three shutouts apiece from Martin Jones and current Edmonton Oilers goalie Ben Scrivens.
Scrivens became expendable due to Jones' excellent play, but Jones doesn't have a shutout in his last 11 appearances, after recording three in the first six starts of his career earlier this season.
The lack of recent shutouts aside, Jones has been a perfectly capable backup to Quick, who has bounced back nicely from a down season in 2012-13.
Quick was responsible for 10 of the Kings' 11 shutouts in 2011-12, when the team previously set the franchise record for most shutouts in a season.
Matching that 2011-12 team not only proves that the Kings are once again an excellent defensive squad, but it also bodes well for Los Angeles' chances in the Stanley Cup playoffs.
The 2011-12 Kings snuck into the postseason as the Western Conference's eighth seed, then stormed through the field to capture the first Stanley Cup in franchise history.
This year's Kings are likely headed for the sixth seed, which is terrible news for the team that finishes third.
