LA Kings Become 1st Team to Win 3 Road Game 7s in 1 Stanley Cup Playoffs

With Sunday night's NHL Western Conference Final Game 7 overtime victory over the Chicago Blackhawks, the Los Angeles Kings clinched a berth in the Stanley Cup Final for the second time in three years.

According to, the Kings are the first team in NHL history to win three Game 7s prior to the Stanley Cup Final, and they are the first team in Cup history to win three Game 7s on the road in one Stanley Cup playoffs.

The Kings will face the Eastern Conference champions, the New York Rangers, beginning Wednesday night in Los Angeles.

The defending champion Chicago Blackhawks were deprived of the opportunity to be the first team to repeat since the Detroit Red Wings in 1998.

The Kings-Blackhawks series will go down as one of the best in recent NHL history.  In addition to the records in Game 7s set by the Kings, several other team and individual milestones came out of the series.

—The Kings moved their record to 7-0 in elimination games this 2014 postseason, winning four such games against the San Jose Sharks in Round 1, two more versus the Anaheim Ducks in Round 2, then Sunday night's Game 7 overtime thriller against Chicago.

—Kings goalie Jonathan Quick is undefeated (4-0) in Stanley Cup playoffs Game 7s.
