The initial time was in the opening round when they fell to the St. Louis Blues in consecutive games by the score of 2-1.
This time is different however. Their talented opponents for this round are the former Stanley Cup champion Chicago Blackhawks. They are led by a solid core of players who have skill and a proven track record of winning.
The Hawks were able to take game one by scoring two on Kings goalie Jonathan Quick. The Black and Silver were badly out-shot in the first, but managed to take a one goal lead to the dressing room.
A quick sequence started in the second with Patrick Sharp and then minutes later, Marian Hossa both scoring goals that ended up winning the game for the home team.
The second game was a different animal for the Kings. It was a rare night that saw the Kings netminder give up four goals by the end of the second period. Quick was also pulled in favour of backup goalie Jonathan Bernier.
The game ended in a Blackhawks 4-2 win. The defending champions will be heading back home for the third game of the series, and they have some work to do to dig them out of their 0-2 hole.
The Kings need to make some big changes in order to get themselves back into this series. Quick wasn't consistent in the second game, which is unusual for him. He will need to have a huge rebound game.
History is on his side, as the Kings are currently an undefeated 7-0 at home during this year's playoffs.
Another thing the Black and Silver need to do is limit the shots on Quick. The Blackhawks have been out-chancing and out-shooting the Kings in both games thus far.
