Los Angeles Lakers Should Target Jason Terry

After having one of the worst benches in the NBA this season, the Los Angeles Lakers need to do something in the offseason to help bolster their second unit. One player they should consider pairing with Kobe Bryant next season is Dallas Mavericks guard Jason Terry.

Jason Terry has long been considered one of the league’s best sixth men, even winning the award back in 2009. The Mavericks are looking to bring in Deron Williams as a free agent and likely will not be able to afford to retain Terry.

Terry is 34 years old and most likely would want to sign with a contender. The Lakers badly need bench help after losing Lamar Odom and Shannon Brown back in December. Terry would be a perfect fit for the Lakers and would help to bring a title back to Los Angeles.

Ray Allen might be a cheaper, more realistic option, but if Terry decided to take a pay cut, the move could work for both sides. The Lakers have very little cap space—and although they can use their amnesty clause on Metta World Peace and allow Ramon Sessions to leave via free agency—the move would work better if Terry opted for less money.

Jason Terry brings the Lakers even more championship experience and would help the second unit rebound from an awful season. He would hopefully help youngsters Andrew Goudelock and Darius Morris refine their games and serve as a competent running mate to Kobe Bryant.

The Lakers need to improve their bench this offseason if they want to keep pace with the Oklahoma City Thunder next year, and Jason Terry will help them do that.
