Today, Alex Kennedy of Hoopsworld tweeted that the team was interested in Ramon Sessions of the Cleveland Cavaliers, who has been stuck playing backup to rookie sensation Kyrie Irving all year long. Sessions is the type of point guard the Lakers need, one who penetrates the lane and finds the open man fairly well.
Yet there are some other options at the point who could easily help solve the Lakers' woes.
Ramon Sessions
Let's start with the man of the hour, Mr. Sessions himself. He's got good size for his position at 6'3" and does a great job of creating plays and limiting his turnovers.
Whereas Derek Fisher normally dumps the ball off to Kobe and lets him take over, Sessions would read the opposition's defensive scheme and then go from there. If the ball goes to Kobe, great. If it doesn't, great, because Kobe takes way too many shots anyway.
With his team-first approach, Sessions could be just what the doctor ordered for Kobe and Company.
Raymond Felton
Felton has been in a funk all year long playing for the Portland Trail Blazers, averaging just 10.3 points and 6.2 assists. However, don't be so quick to write him off as the solution for the Lakers. In his half-season with the New York Knicks, he proved that he was more than capable of running an offense.
Playing for Mike D'Antoni, Felton averaged 17.1 points and nine assists, as he had some great scoring targets to whom he could give the ball.
